Lance Cpl. Derrick J. Cothran, 21, of Avondale, Louisiana, died April 15, 2006, when his HMMWV struck an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Cothran was assigned to the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
