Gregory R. Trent

Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent, 38, of Norton, Massachusetts, died August 8, 2012, in Bethesda, Maryland, from wounds suffered July 31 in Baktabad, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. Master Sgt. Trent was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Keith D. Benson

Spc. Keith D. Benson, 27, of Brockton, Masschusetts, died January 18, 2012, in Paktika province, Afghanistan. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation. Spc. Benson was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade, Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Grace was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Massachusetts National Guard, Braintree, Massachusetts.

Steven E. Gutowski

Spc. Steven E. Gutowski, 24, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, died September 28, 2011, in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Spc. Gutowski was assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion, 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Timothy J. Steele

Steele, 25, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, died August 23, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. 1st Lt. Steele was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Kevin A. Houston

Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Kevin A. Houston, 35, of West Hyannisport, Massachusetts, died August 6, 2011, in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed. Chief Petty Officer Houston was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.

Matthew R. Gallagher

Spc. Matthew R. Gallagher, 22, of North Falmouth, Massachusetts, died June 26, 2011, in Wasit province, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Spc. Gallagher was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Alan L. Snyder

Sgt. Alan L. Snyder, 28, of Worcester, Massachusetts, died June 18, 2011, in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered during a vehicle roll-over. Sgt. Snyder was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany.

Cpl. William J. Woitowicz, 23, of Middlesex, Massachusetts, died June 7, 2011, while conducting combat operations in Badghis province, Afghanistan. Cpl. Woitowicz was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
