Cooper, 19, of Wahpeton, North Dakota, died July 5, 2010, in Yakuta, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. Spc. Cooper assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

David C. Kuehl

North DakotaStaff Sgt. David C. Kuehl, 27, of Wahpeton, North Dakota, died May 22, 2007, in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit. Kuehl was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

Goodiron, 25, of Mandaree, North Dakota, died November 23, 2006, in Qarabagh, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. Goodiron was assigned to National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Beyer, 21, of Jamestown, North Dakota, died on June 23, 2006, in the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Beyer was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Curtis R. Mehrer

Hermanson, 21, of Fargo, North Dakota, died on May 24, 2006, in AL Abayachi, Iraq, of injuries sustained when his RG-31 Mine Protected Vehicle came under improvised explosive device, rocket propel grenade and enemy small arms fire while on a route-clearing mission during combat operations. Hermanson was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 164th Engineer Battalion, Minot, North Dakota.

Dennis J. Ferderer, Jr.

North DakotaSpc. Dennis J. Ferderer Jr., 20, of New Salem, North Dakota, died in Ad Duluiyah, Iraq, on November 2, 2005, when enemy forces threw a hand grenade at his HMMWV during convoy operations. Ferderer was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Cody L. Wentz

North DakotaSpc. Cody L. Wentz, 21, of Williston, North Dakota, died November 4, 2004, in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle while on patrol. Wentz was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 141st Engineer Battalion, Williston, North Dakota.

Anthony W. Monroe

North DakotaPfc. Anthony W. Monroe, 20, of Bismarck, North Dakota, died October 11, 2004, in Baghdad, Iraq, when two rockets impacted his camp. He was assigned to the Army’s Division Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Lance J. Koenig

Koenig, 33, of Fargo, North Dakota, died September 22, 2004, in Tikrit, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting a dismounted patrol. Koenig was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 141st Engineer Battalion, Jamestown, North Dakota.

North DakotaSpc. Philip D. Brown, 21, of Jamestown, North Dakota, died May 8, 2004, in Balad, Iraq, from injuries sustained west of Samarra by an improvised explosive device. Brown was assigned to the Army National Guard’s Company B, 141st Engineer Combat Battalion, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Keith L. Smette

Smette, 25, of Fargo, North Dakota, died as a result of his injuries on January 24, 2004, after the convoy he was in was attacked with an improvised explosive device north of Fallujah, Iraq. Smette was assigned to 957th Engineer Company, 130th Engineer Brigade, Bismarck, North Dakota.

Kenneth W. Hendrickson

Hendrickson, 41, of Bismarck, North Dakota, died as a result of his injuries on January 24, 2004, after the convoy he was in was attacked with an improvised explosive device north of Fallujah, Iraq. Hendrickson was assigned to 957th Engineer Company, 130th Engineer Brigade, Bismarck, North Dakota.

Thomas J. Sweet, II

North DakotaSpc. Thomas J. Sweet II, 23, of Bismarck, North Dakota, died on November 27, 2003, in Junction City, Iraq, of non-combat related injuries. Sweet was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, based in Fort Riley, Kansas.

Sheldon R. Hawk Eagle

North DakotaPfc. Sheldon R. Hawk Eagle, 21, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, was killed on November 15, 2003, when two 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq. Hawk Eagle was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Jon P. Fettig

Fettig, 30, Dickinson, North Dakota, was killed on July 22, 2003, on the outside of Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when the Heavy Expanded-Mobility Tactical Truck he was in was hit by a rocket propelled grenade. Fettig was assigned to the 957th Engineer Company (V Corps), Bismarck, North Dakota.
